Ergonomic Tools
An ergonomic tool is one that fits the task you are performing and is comfortable in your hand without causing awkward postures, harmful contact pressures, or other risks to your safety or health.
Selecting and using a tool that does not fit your hand or using the tool in a way it was not intended can result in injuries such as carpal tunnel syndrome, tendonitis, or muscle strain.
Injury does not result from a single event but from repetitive movements over time. Repetitive movements may damage muscles, tendons, nerves, ligaments, joints, cartilage, spinal discs, or blood vessels.
Tool Selection and Use
Consider the requirements of the job before you pick up a tool and start working. Are you using the right tools for the job? Which is better to use, renting a specialized tool or hiring a professional? •
Select the right tool for the job at hand.
• Using a tool for a purpose other than its intended purpose often damages it and could cause you pain, discomfort or injury. Assess your work space to determine which tool will work efficiently and safely
